- Statement of Commitment
- Wolverhampton Domestic Violence Forum was established in 1990 and is a registered Charity Number 1071013 and a Public Company Limited by Guarantee. We acknowledge the autonomy of each agency, the boundaries of agency capacity, importance of inter-agency communication and collaboration for improvement of services to those experiencing domestic violence. Domestic Violence is a crime and is unacceptable in our community. All individuals have the right to live their lives free from abuse and the threat of abuse.
- Violence against women happens regardless of age, race, sexuality, class, disability, nationality, marital status, religious or political beliefs, but these factors may mean that some women face a multiplicity of disadvantages. The Forum will actively seek to ensure that disadvantaged groups are represented on the Forum and receive appropriate services.
- Children and young people who witness or hear domestic violence may also be affected and their needs should be addressed by the appropriate agencies.
- Mutual trust, respect, professionalism and a desire for sensitive and appropriate service delivery are essential to inter-agency working. The Forum will be guided by the principles of equality of opportunity in its discussions and operations and informed by the experiences of survivors.
- Services should be offered in a non-judgmental manner aiming to maximise choices. A women centred approach should be adopted by agencies, recognising the importance of confidentiality and that safety is the priority. The Forum acknowledges that there are many and complex reasons why women stay in or return to abusive relationships.
- Forum representatives should demonstrate a sensitivity to the issues around domestic violence and a commitment to supporting women who have experienced domestic violence.
- In its capacity as an employer, the Forum will ensure equality of opportunity in recruitment and employment. No applicant or employee shall be less favourably treated on grounds of age, gender, race, disability, sexuality, class, nationality, marital status, religious/political belief or Trade Union activities.
